Casemiro to leave Manchester United at the end of the season after four years
The confirmation of his exit draws the curtain on a four-year tenure at Old Trafford, highlighted by a goal in the 2023 League Cup final and two FA Cup final appearances, including a triumph in 2024.
The Brazil international completed a £70 million ($94 million) transfer from Real Madrid in 2022 and has gone on to make 146 appearances, scoring 21 goals. He is the club’s highest earner, with a weekly salary of £375,000.
Casemiro said in a club statement that he would "carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life".
"From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club,"
"It is not time to say goodbye -- there are many more memories to create during the next four months."
"Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever," he posted.
"Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans."
Sources at United suggest the decision not to extend his contract was made some time ago, well before the public announcement, as part of a broader strategy to overhaul their central midfield options this summer.
Man United Confidential has previously reported that Major League Soccer is one possible destination for Casemiro as he prepares to leave United. A move to one of Europe’s top five leagues is also under consideration, while Saudi Arabia remains another potential option for the Brazilian midfielder to continue his career.
Alongside Casemiro, uncertainty also surrounds the long-term futures of Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte and Harry Maguire at Old Trafford, while Christian Eriksen, who departed on a free transfer last summer, has yet to be replaced.
Sources close to United told ESPN that the departure of one of the club’s top earners would create “extra room” to strengthen the squad during the summer.
Midfield has been identified as a priority area for the red half of Manchester ahead of the summer transfer window, with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba among their targets.
