Man City players refund fans' Champions League tickets after shock defeat to Bodo/Glimt in Norway

Manchester City’s players will reimburse the ticket prices of the 374 supporters who made the trip to Norway to watch their team suffer a shock 3–1 Champions League defeat against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday.

Manchester City travelled to Norway expecting to assert their dominance against Bodo/Glimt, but instead left their supporters frustrated after suffering defeat to the Norwegian side. City found themselves 3-0 down before Rayan Cherki pulled one back around the hour mark. However, any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished when Rodri was shown a red card shortly afterwards, ending their chances of taking even a single point back to Manchester.

To reassure fans following the stunning loss, the Citizens’ players agreed to refund the ticket prices of all supporters who made the trip to Norway.

Speaking on behalf of the squad, City's captaincy group of Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland sent a message to calm fans after the shocking defeat: "Our supporters mean everything to us.

"We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted. They are the best fans in the world.

"We also recognise that it was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch.

"Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodo is the least we can do."

"We're ready to fight on Saturday against Wolves and again next Wednesday when we face Galatasaray in front of our amazing fans at the Etihad."

With away tickets priced at around £25, Manchester City’s players will collectively contribute £9,357 to reimburse supporters who made the trip to the Arctic Circle.

Manchester City’s only victories in their last seven matches have come in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. In the league, they have recorded three draws and one defeat in their last four outings, beginning with a goalless draw away at Sunderland on New Year’s Day.

In Champions League, the blue half of Manchester are set to host Galatasaray at the Etihad Stadium in the final match of the league phase, with victory essential if they are to retain any hope of a top-eight finish.
